The report states that the parents were the ones who found the photos when investigating what their child was doing online. Many of the students at the school and their parents are shocked. If she is found guilty of the charge she could spend up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine.
The problem is that this type of case is becoming more and more common. In this case the teacher only sent the student pictures, and it did not go further like in other cases around the country. Sad to say this is not a case of the media inflating the situation, but is a problem that seems to be getting much worse. Take for example the case in San Diego where two ex-high school teachers plead guilty to having sex with their students. One of the teachers was 26 years old and was the schools par time basketball coach.
Then there was the case in 2005 when a teacher from Tennessee was accused of having an affair with her 13 year old student. Pamela Turner was 27 at the time she was accused. She ended up receiving only nine months in jail after accepting a plea deal, and pleading no contest. The most famous case was that of Mary Kay Letourneau who spent seven years in prison for having sex with a male student. Those are just some of the cases which involve students having relationships with teachers. One teacher even have a child whose father was one of her 16 year old students.
The majority of these teachers seem to be young in their late 20s or early 30s and some are even married. Some of them claim that they suffer from some type of psychiatric disorder which caused them to do the things that they did. Of course this does not mean that all teachers who are in their 20s and 30s are bad and are preying on their students. It does seem that more and more female teachers are being accused of having sex with their students or some type of inappropriate behavior over the last year.
